My love for the arts began as a young child growing up in Massachusetts and learning to play the violin and piano, and passing out programs at the local Framingham orchestra, where my piano teacher was the conductor and my dentist was the first violinist.
I majored in music at Wellesley College. I then taught school in Massachusetts and Maine. I still remember the joy and enthusiasm expressed by my elementary school students when we attended performances by the Portland, Maine, Symphony Orchestra. When we lived in North Carolina, I was very involved in the Western Piedmont Symphony Orchestra and its Youth Orchestra. It is so important to instill the love of the arts in children by having firsthand experiences that will last a lifetime. When my husband, Alan, and I moved to Florida, the Kravis Center was only a dream—yet to become the world-class performing arts center it is today. We were fortunate to meet Helen and Merrill Bank who invited us to join with others to be a part of the making of cultural history in Palm Beach County.
Since opening its doors, in 1992, the Center has brought the community together by offering something for everyone of every age. I particularly enjoy Kravis on Broadway and Regional Arts, and I think the Adults at Leisure Series is great. Alan and I made the decision to support the Center’s Endowment Fund in our estate plan so that future generations will continue to experience the joy of the performing arts.
